[Ishigaki Akaishi Beach] Taste the "Openness" and "Akaishi Blue" Beyond the Adan Forest

🔄 Updated: 2026.02.06 📍 Northern Area / Akaishi
Vast scenery of Akaishi Beach, Ishigaki Island, Okinawa, Japan

"A sense of the farthest end" woven by history and nature.
Settlement where the history of postwar reclamation resides: Akaishi settlement is a place cleared from scratch by immigrants from the main island of Okinawa in 1955. The Adan forest leading to the beach that continues for more than 100m is also a trace of life that the former pioneers connected to the sea, and knowing the background, you can feel the "strength" that is not just a tourist spot.

1. "Long Beach" Stretching Over 1km

Unlike beaches near the city center, there are no artificial objects blocking the view. The gently arc-shaped coastline sandwiched between Mt. Kuura and Mt. Tomuru on the left and right boasts one of the largest scales in Ishigaki Island.
There is a landing point for paragliders, but since it is around the edge of the beach farthest from the entrance, there is no problem laying a mat when using the beach normally.

2. Ishigaki's Leading Sunrise and Starry Sky

Located on the east coast, it is a famous spot for "Sunrise". The moment the sun rising from the horizon dyes the white sand pink is a masterpiece. Also, since there are no streetlights at night, you can taste a night typical of a "Starry Sky Reserve" where the Milky Way can be seen clearly with the naked eye.

3. "Pulse of the Sea" Told by Driftwood

Treasure Trove of Beachcombing: Because of the terrain where the northeast wind blows directly, driftwood arrives from all over the world mainly in winter. Not only beautiful shells and sea glass, but also items that make you realize the vastness of the sea, such as floats (glass floats) with foreign characters written on them, can be found.

Coexistence with Sea Turtles: Because the sand is very fine and soft, it is suitable for sea turtles to lay eggs. From May to August, traces of egg-laying (traces like caterpillars) can be seen, symbolizing the richness of the island's ecosystem.

4. About Facilities at Akaishi Beach

5. Reality of Facilities and Parking

There is space to park cars near the entrance, but 3 cars are the limit.
If it is full, don't force it and let's use the wide space in front of "Akaishi Kyodo Baiten (Community Store)".
However, this is also a community bus route and a living road for residents. Park with consideration so as not to get in the way.

Also, you can borrow the toilet at the community store, but as a courtesy, let's buy cold drinks or sweets.

6. How to Interact with the Sea

Although it is a shallow sea, a certain water depth is maintained up to the reef edge. If you snorkel, you can meet untouched coral and fish.
However, everything is at your own risk. The signal is weak but connected, so prepare for emergencies and enjoy within a reasonable range.
It is essential to bring fresh water in a PET bottle or tank to wash off the salt on your body.

Caution:
There is no need to be overly afraid of Habu snakes during the day, but the story changes before dawn and after sunset. This is an area far from the hospital. Please avoid entering the bushes carelessly in the dark where you cannot see your feet.

7. Touching "Deep Blue" Not Reachable on a Day Trip

Here is about 1 hour by car from Ishigaki City center.
Many tourists make a round trip of this distance on a day trip. However, just taking pictures hurriedly and returning, you cannot see the true face of Akaishi.
The moment when the sky and sea are dyed purple at dusk. Or the color of the sea first thing in the morning when no tourists are around.
These are privileges allowed only to those who "stay" in this land.

If you put yourself in the silence of the north, it is wasteful to spend time moving.
Unpack at a hideaway-like inn nearby and gaze at the sea without worrying about time. At night, fall asleep under the starry sky with the sound of waves as BGM.
Such luxurious use of time regenerates a tired heart from the core.
If you seek activities, it is good to utilize local gathering tours, and if there is a professional guide, you can know this sea deeper and safer.
