"I want to eat delicious island food on my trip to Ishigaki Island, Okinawa, Japan. But eating out with infants who can't stay still is honestly quite nerve-wracking..."
Moms and Dads with such worries, please rest assured.
In Ishigaki Island, besides the glittering cafes in guidebooks, there are many excellent cafeterias (Shokudo) that have "Tatami rooms (Zashiki), children's tableware, and above all, staff who are kind to children".
This time, I will introduce only the shops that I was convinced "This place was truly welcoming!" by actually visiting many times with my own children while raising them on the island.
When dining with babies and toddlers, having a Japanese-style "Tatami Room" (Zashiki) helps a lot.
You can lay down a baby whose neck is not yet stable, or let them sit on a low chair (Mame-isu) and eat together.
The shops introduced this time are all places with an atmosphere where "even if children move around a little, the people around watch over them warmly". I am always saved by them!
Near the city center, and very homely. There is a wide tatami room, and you can relax as if you came to visit a relative's house.
The staff are used to children, and it is a shop where you can feel relieved the moment you enter.
I love the taste and atmosphere and go there often. It is exquisite to leave the soup of the soba and eat it with Juicy (Okinawan seasoned rice) sprinkled with Pipachi (island pepper).
A homely shop like grandma's house. You can use it safely even with a baby.
The tatami space is firmly secured, and it is useful when you want to enjoy island cuisine calmly. Sashimi comes with the set meal, and everything is delicious.
It is a famous shop listed in guidebooks, but it is an old-fashioned cafeteria that is also very popular with locals.
There is an atmosphere of "mutual consideration" here, and no one cares even if children make a little noise. Yaeyama soba eaten mixed with local children is exceptional.
Located along the bypass, the parking lot is wide and easy to stop by!
A nice point is that low chairs for kids (the type that makes a sound when sitting) are fully equipped. The menu is abundant and both adults and children are satisfied! Local gourmet foods not seen in other cafeterias are also quite substantial.

The amount is safe even if you have a growing child. Peanut miso soba is really delicious, but other menus are also great.
Famous for its specialty "Miso Soba", but actually it is a super kind shop for children.
The staff's gaze towards children is warm, and they quickly bring out children's tableware.
If you stop by on the way to the airport or immediately after arrival, this is the place.
You can spend a relaxing time before and after the flight in the tatami room with the relaxed atmosphere of Shiraho settlement as it is. Anyway, the amount is large!
If you stop by while strolling through Euglena Mall, this is the place.
It is a hidden cafeteria on the 3rd floor of the public market. Fresh tuna bowls directly from the market, Yaeyama soba, and set meals are abundant. There are tatami seats and children's chairs are also available, so you can take a leisurely meal break between shopping.
It is also possible to bring in sashimi purchased at the market on the 1st floor and eat it (cooking fee is negotiated separately).
🍽️ Children's Tableware and Low Chairs
The shops introduced this time are basically equipped with children's tableware and low chairs for tatami rooms. Just saving the trouble of asking "Do you have a chair for children?" reduces parental stress by half.
🍜 Okinawa Soba is "The Strongest Toddler Food"
Yaeyama soba has a gentle soup (bonito soup base), ingredients such as chopped meat and fish cake are easy to chew, and the noodles are chewy and soft, so it is actually ideal for toddler meals.
We dilute the soup slightly with water or hot water and give it to our children. Juicy (seasoned rice) is also a favorite of children.
