Information on minor spots where you can enjoy windsurfing doesn't come up at all even if you search on the internet, right?
Even if you think "This place looks good" at your travel destination, if no one is in the water, you are full of anxieties such as "Are there many rocks?", "Will the wind be interrupted if I go offshore?", "Can I park my car here?", and "What about dangers such as tidal currents and creatures?".
I've never seen a sailor-like website that kindly and carefully explains where you can windsurf in the area! ...So, an active resident sailor will reveal the spot situation in Ishigaki Island, Okinawa, Japan.
There are as many beaches as stars in Ishigaki Island, but the places sailors should choose are limited. We select beaches based on roughly the following 4 conditions.
I named it arbitrarily (lol). This is the closest to the city center.
The entrance is a narrow road next to "Beach Terrace AO" (city side). If you proceed here, there is a space at the end, so park there. By the way, if you get off and go straight east, it is Funakura Park.
This is a place I personally like quite a bit. It is natural that you can play with the south wind, but actually, when the "true north" wind blows, it is also a spot that changes to a beautiful side shore due to the influence of the terrain.
Large "Momotamana (Tropical Almond)" trees grow naturally on the entire beach, becoming natural parasols. It is a beach where you can relax while waiting for the wind.
It is shallow and the depth is constant, and the sea is simply beautiful when windsurfing. With a wind from the northeast, it becomes cross-on and you can blast towards Kabira Bay.
Under the same conditions, many people flow to the point "next to Club Med". However, to go there, you have to pass through a narrow road surrounded by bushes. If you go with a large car such as a minivan or van, the car body will be full of scratches from branches. I want to go there someday, but for now, I cherish my car and choose Yoshihara Coast.
A valuable "east-facing" spot in Ishigaki Island. The dynamic shallow sea of the northern part spreads out.
Resident's Reality: To be honest, this is "training" (lol). The entrance is limited to 3 cars. From there, you need to walk through the windbreak forest with your sail. Since you can often ride in Yoshihara if it is true east, it is rarely used. However, it is not a loss to remember it as a "treasured spot" when the water quality near Funakura is bad or when you really want to ride in the beautiful sea on the east side.
I also named this arbitrarily (lol). There are countless entrances to Nagura Bay, but the point recommended is the coordinates above.
If the north wind starts blowing, this is it. However, if the wind shifts to the east, it becomes offshore (wind from land to sea), so please avoid it as there is a risk of not being able to return. Also, when the wind turns from south to north, it becomes "west wind" for a moment, but I do not recommend entering at that timing. It is a place that is difficult to establish as a west wind point.
